Lego is one of the most popular games all around the world. Lego has been the pioneer of starting games of constructing by interlocking parts into each other and creating different figures, objects like vehicles, buildings and robots. The advantage of Lego is that these constructed parts can be removed into separate bits and pieces and can again be rejoined to create completely different objects. AS the trend of Lego increased, Lego began manufacturing such toy bricks and the legacy went on as high as supporting into huge games, movies, creating Lego competitions, Lego amusement parks. This subculture went on as high that billions of such Lego parts have been produced till date.

The start of the company Lego

Lego was the brainchild of Ole Kirk Christiansen. Ole was a carpenter by profession and lived in Denmark. He got this idea of creating interlocking parts while making toys for children. He gave this name of Lego as Lego meant leg godt in Danish language. Leg godt means “play well”. This was way back in 1932. Lego was formed as a company and a brand in toys for children in the year 1934. The company expanded its creating of toys into plastic interlocking parts from the year 1947.

New creations by Lego

As the company went on progressing, they created Automatic Binding Bricks which have an ability of self locking themselves into each other, but also easy to separate them from each other without much effort. This release was possible in the year 1947. These blocks were able to snap on to each other. By 1951, plastic parts in Lego accounted for half of the product by Lego for their toy parts.
Godtfred, son of Christiansen, became the Junior Managing Director of the Lego group. He observed a huge potential in taking Lego forward in making creative play toys. New developments took place to make such systems with proper material for good strength of toys, which gave way to the modern Lego brick in the year 1958.
Lego group launched Duplo line of products in 1969 which were meant for younger children. These were twice longer, heightened and deep which made creating things easier for younger children.
Taking innovations further, minifigures were introduced in 1978. Minifigures add humanly nature to the creativity. Minifigures were introduced for girls in Belville and Clickits lines of Lego. These minifigures were also given the feature to interlock with the other regular blocks. Lego also launched Lego Technic for advanced play, Lego Baby and the Lego bricks in Space program.

How to play Lego?

Playing with Lego is an interesting creativity and will give a good wash to your brains! You may either start following the given instruction in your Lego box / bucket or you may simply start building Lego as you think about it.

You should buy a mixed pack of Legos which are usually basic bricks in varying sizes. Get other blocks which you feel that you must have to satisfy your creativity hunger.

Next, get Baseplates. Baseplates give a strong support from the ground. These are required after your structure reach a certain height. The bricks and blocks of Lego give strength from the inside, but the structure tends to become tipsy, if it is not supported well from the ground. Good support allows you to build taller structures.

Another idea given by Lego builders is to “break” the rules. Legos are traditionally meant to be built in a straight manner which will be perpendicular to the ground. But if you like to experiment, tweak and experiment, you should be able to build in diagonal manner. This gives new looks and helps to think in a different angle when building Lego structures.

The goodness of such Lego structures is that you can dissemble the pieces and rebuild something completely new. So you can start thinking about creating something completely new and you could either smash down the structure with your chair (just for fun!). Do remember to take nice pictures with your camera so that you can keep them for your scrap book!

Now review your inventory of Lego blocks that you have with you. Also make a list of Lego blocks that you will require to build your structure. If you need more Lego pieces but do not need a whole bucket of assorted pieces, or you need very specific pieces, then check out the Pick-a-Brick shop where you can buy specific Lego brick to make your Lego plan.

Now, when you start making a Lego structure, you may either need a Baseplates or you may not need any at all. This depends on how big a structure you want to make. Make sure that your floor is level and is not that kind where your structure will slide.

Each Lego piece has a recessed underside and a raised circle side on the top. When the recessed underside is pressed on the raised circle on the top, these brick fit on to them and stay firm. Check the attachment by gently pulling both the pieces – they should not come apart.

Keep on building these blocks one above the other so that you get your desired structure.

When you are finished building the structure, place it at a stable place which is also out of the way, so that it does not get damaged. If you plan to keep the structure for a longer time, keep it clean by blow

ing it with compressed air through an air blower or a compressed air canister.

When you want to dismantle the pieces, it is good to use a Lego Brick separator tool when you are trying to separate small pieces. Big blocks can be separated by pulling apart with your hands.
