The need of urbanisation

Every country in the world can grow and become better only if it has good infrastructure and India being the superpower, has no shortcuts either. As of 2011, according to Census data, 31% of population of the country resides in urban areas. This 31% population generates 63% of India’s GDP. It is estimated that by year 2030 A.D., India will have urban areas to house 40% of total population and the same will be contributing to 75% of GDP. Given the geographical span of India, the definition of a city being a smart city must vary according to available resources, level of development and the purpose of a particular area to become a smart city.
Thus keeping this in mind, there are certain criteria which can define how a city becomes a smart city in its own individuality. The basic criteria for a city to work towards being a smart city could be as follows:

This can be also measured on how transparent are services available to a person. Is the person being made to stand in long queues and yet not know whether the service be attainable or would he/she end up in corruption? Is there any under table business or is it that an individual gets their requirements in less time and in a efficient manner? Increased efficiency, comprehensive infrastructure, easy aspirations, ideal urban eco-system add to the layers of smartness. Smartness should also be able to give a decent quality of life to the citizens. Environment should be clean, sustainable and application with and by smart solutions. Sustainability and replicability should also be considered as once a smart city, it is umpteen important to maintain the cities and should be a all time effort.
